Farm Bureau Web Site Redesign

The South Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company (SCFBMIC) is the largest domestic insurance company in South Carolina and the fourth largest overall, with property and casualty sales exceeding $160 million on more than 316,000 policies at the end of 2001.

Since 1955, SCFB has been providing Farm Bureau members with insurance coverage that was difficult to obtain and assisting members with safety programs and loss control measures.

Challenge

Stratapult worked with SCFBMIC to add additional functionality, convey a more professional appearance and provide dynamic customer service capabilities.

SCFBMIC hired Stratapult to create the website strategy, design and develop the website.   Stratapult also helped SCFBMIC to determine future plans for their web presence, including tools to assist with their relationships with customers. 

Solution

Stratapult first performed a competitive analysis and a developed a detailed project definition.  We subsequently moved into the detailed design phase, and evaluated typical user scenarios. We developed a detailed user experience map representing all pages within the site, and their relationship to other pages.  This piece is integrated with design concepts for the Graphic User Interface (GUI) and the design for the back-end architecture and dataflow necessary to achieve the customer-service functionality desired for the new site.

The technical architecture encompasses leading edge development platforms accessing a variety of back-end data stores.  Visual Studio.NET was used to create Active Server Pages.NET web pages.  It was used to create Visual Basic.NET objects that communicate with a SQL Server database, a mainframe DB2 database, and a mainframe RACF security system.
 

 Impact

SCFBMIC provides their customers with the ability to handle a majority of their insurance services needs on-line, at their own convenience. The site allows SCFBMIC customers the ability to satisfy their insurance needs at their own convenience, and at the same time decreases SCFBMIC's operational expenses.
