Doug Bordner, Chief Technology Officer for Stratapult, shares his insight on Web Portals.
Executive Abstract This document positions web portals as a key business and technical foundation for businesses to attract, satisfy, and retain customers as they continue to move faster into the Internet to conduct e-Business. Customers' appreciation of web portal personalization and ease of use provide businesses a feature richness and flexible platform to implement e-commerce transactions and customer service. Web portals come in many shapes and sizes, but principally fall within one or more portal categories of consumer, enterprise, commerce, and industry vertical portals. Web portals support a wide, varying, and still rapidly evolving range of business models to generate a growing source of new revenue for businesses. Successful delivery of web portals is more constrained by business challenges than by technology - although technology does need careful attention to detail. Several of the keys to successful web portals revolve around a business' organization, creativity, business partner relationships, knowledge expertise, cultural, and human aspects.
Mr. Bordner is an evangelist for web portal architectures and design, and leads the consulting services delivery practices for Stratapult. Doug possesses over 25 years of IT professional and business experience with such prestigious companies as General Motors, Schlumberger and Stratapult.
